The Village of Rockton is a true treasure located just minutes southwest of Beloit, nestled in northern Winnebago County on the banks of the Rock River. ~History of Rockton Rockton real estate was originally inhabited by Native Americans until Stephen Mack Jr. (a fur trader) married Hononegah, the daughter of Indian Chief Potawatamie. Together, the couple began the community of what would become Rockton in the early 19th century. They called it Macktown. Rockton real estate changed over time through wars, the industrial revolution and even the frenzy over land that began to populate Illinois territories. By the 1840s and 1850s, a number of Canadians and French-Canadians moved to Rockton. The village has held tightly to its character and history through it all.

The high school actually serves the towns of Rockton, South Beloit and Shirland. Named after the Indian wife of Stephen Mack Jr., Honenegah opened in 1922 and has undergone many renovations. Over the past few years, the high school has seen additions, which include an athletic practice dome and a state-of-the-art- Performing Arts Center that seats 1,100.
High school sports are a big hit with Rockton residents. The Hononegah football and basketball games attract huge crowds from all around north Winnebago County, sometimes bringing in thousands of fans to cheer on the Indians.
~Things to See and Do in Rockton Rockton has so many things to see and do around the area. A great local attraction to start is the Macktown Living History Center. Here, visitors can view the original artifacts from the time the village began and even visit Stephen Mack's home.

Shoppers can bring a piece of Rockton's history home by visiting soem fo the picturesque shops located along the village's Main Street. There, shoppers will find offering collectibles, gifts and antiques.
