The village of Shopiere is a small unincorporated community in Rock County in southern Wisconsin. Shopiere is bordered on one side by 4.7 miles of the scenic Turtle Creek. The community of Shopiere real estate is located in the Turtle township, nine miles southeast of Janesville and is considered part of the Janesville metro area. It is neighbored by The Town of Beloit and the City of Beloit, Clinton and the Illinois stateline. Shopiere lies 54 miles southeast of Madison and is 22 miles north of Rockford, IL.
Shopiere real estate is easily accessible via two interstate highways, I-39/90 and I-43. Shopiere is served by three major airports (Rock County, Greater Rockford, IL. and Dane County Regional in Wisconsin.

~ Shopiere History Shopiere was named for the abundant limestone in the vicinity when the Post Office was established in 1850. Until that time the village was known as Waterloo because of a small battle that was fought between the Meeken family and others from the settlement. The name was taken from the French word for limestone: chaux (sho) pierre.
Shopiere real estate was established by Mr. Caleb E, Culver in 1839. Mr. Hopkins soon followed in 1840. A few years later Mr. Blackstone and Mr. Blodgett joined the soon to be village. The first log cabin was built by Mr. Culver and Mr. Randall built the first home in 1841. Not to be out done Mr. Caleb built the first stone home in 1842. Mr. Blackstone became the first merchant when he opened a store.
Shopiere real estate has contributed to the history of the area from its foundations. It is believed that the history of man dates back 10,000 years. Native Americans most likely made temporary camps along the creek. Before the coming of the "white" man Shopiere was a hardwood forest.
~ Recreation in Shopiere Shopiere real estate features a privately owned campground, a golf course and the popular Sweet-Allyn County Park. The park is so popular that the parking lot had to be expanded recently. The picturesque park borders the tree lined banks of Turtle Creek. From the park you can see the gentle rapids of the creek. It is a great place to learn whitewater rafting or kayaking, take a hike, fish or just enjoy a picnic. The park is also home to the annual Turtle Community's 4th of July Celebration. |
